These links contain the template, reflection, and rubric for my lesson I created entitled, Comprehension and Creativity. It is a virtual experience for fifth grade reading comprehension.
I feel that educators should incorporate up-to-date technology in their classrooms to reach the students of this generation. Students of this “Digital Nation” are very comfortable with technology, and teachers need to be as well. Teachers should have a thorough grasp of how to operate technology such as computers, the Interactive WhiteBoard, ELMO, etc. to communicate with their students and facilitate learning in a meaningful way. These technological advances are essential in meeting the needs of different types of learners (auditory, visual, kinesthetic learners). Assistive technology and universal design for learning help all students gain access to the curriculum and instruction. Furthermore, employing technology in a lesson can make it more engaging and enjoyable for students and encourage their active involvement. Using technology in the classroom can allow students the opportunity to connect with each other and construct meaning from the material/instruction. My ideas about instituting technology in the classroom have not changed; they have been enhanced. I have a better understanding of how to include the ideas of UDL in my teaching. Additionally, I am more aware of the research and theory that support technology in the classroom. As I studied Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences and the concept of Project-Based Learning, I became more knowledgeable on how to effectively adapt my instruction to satisfy my students’ unique learning needs. By working with technology such as html coding on my personal web page, Audacity, Vokis, Glogster, Wordle, Wiki page, and creating a virtual field trip, I am more confident in using these beneficial programs/websites in my teaching career. Overall, this course has given me a much more profound insight into technology’s place in education.
